Although eager to see this myself, I have yet to see the 4014 when it was hot and running.</div><div><br></div><div>But I did have the opportunity for a semi-private tour of the Big Boy when it was cold, in the UP engine-house in Cheyenne. I even got to explore the cab.</div><div><br></div><div>My brother in law is a train-aficionado and president of the regional model train club. For several years he has taken me to the annual train-show in Denver, where the head of the UP 4014 restoration project gives a talk and slide-show on the project. Although the actual 4014 is not there, the talk is always fascinating. </div><div>I asked if the restoration inserted any modern materials, such as stainless-steel boiler tubes. He said no, they wanted it to be authentic, and it is always uncertain what unintended effects may occur when new materials are inserted into vintage machinery.
